Dwarf comedians, boxer feature in American movie [Hollywood is coming to Cambodia]

PHNOM PENH, 1st December 2012 (The Cambodia Herald) - American filmmakers have just finished shooting a movie in Cambodia which features dwarf comedians, boxer Ei Pouthong and local villagers.

The 16-day shoot for "The History of Mankind" cost $600,000 and covered several provinces including Kep, Kampong Thom and Kampot, local director Eng Nareth said.

Speaking to Cambodia Express News, an affiliate of The Cambodia Herald, he said the shoot provided jobs and helped foster the local movie industry.

"I'm happy as some stars in this movie are Khmer," he said. "They don’t know English but they worked so hard, waking up very early in the morning and staying until late at night. We're also happy because they performed so well."

The movie, which was given a pre-launch screening on at Platinum Soriya on November 21, involves creatures who eat human flesh and use dragons as horses.

Ly Ly, an 18-year-old dwarf, said she was delighted with the chance to perform in the movie.

"I feel so great," she said. "It was hard for me because of the English language but I did my best ... I really want Khmers to support Khmers in this movie."
